Mayi Ngwala was born in New Orleans, Louisiana while his father, Dr. Faustin Ngwala Ndambi, attended the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University. 

Mayi spent most of his childhood in the Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly Zaire, before returning to the United States.

He’s a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, and has led and continues to lead a successful career in the accounting and financial industry. 

Mayi is also a graduate of the former Hollywood Scriptwriting Institute (HSI), Hollywood, California, with such alumnus as writer, director, and Emmy award Winner Rudy DeLuca, and New York Times bestselling author, playwright, columnist, and Academy of Television, Arts, and Sciences past Blue Ribbon Panel Judge, Jennie Louise Frankel who served on the Board of Governors. Mayi holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) from the Robert P. Stiller School of Business at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont.

At HSI and under the guidance of his esteemed mentor, the late, noted writer and Iowa Walk of Fame inductee Earl D. Blakesley, Jr., whose screen credits include acclaimed television shows Tour of Duty and China Beach, Mayi labored and persevered in honing his craft in story structure and writing. Kill Irish is his second novel. Congo: Spirit of Darkness is the NAACP Image Award nominated novel, which Mayi co-authored with his brother Allain Ngwala. He lives in the United States with his wife and venture partner, Nakia Ngwala, and their two sons.
